Flower Power

As far as the weather goes, this past week has been glorious in YYC. And with the sunshine also comes the blooming of spring’s ubiquitous floral prints. When I spotted Laurel Green rocking her pretty poesy print shirt-dress, I was intrigued. When I discovered the lovely cut out in the back, however, I was enamoured with her look.
Green lets her dress dictate the rest of her outfit, but throws in some other lovely pieces—including a vintage pair of cowboy boots—just in time for this year’s serious Stampede countdown. The teal belt isn’t just cute, but also adds shape to the dress, and her fantastic bird necklace is a real statement maker. A pair of oversized shades is always a nice addition and is the perfect way to celebrate the beginning of Calgary’s most beautiful season.

Oooh, polka dots!

Rocking a palate of black and white with a healthy dose of pattern, Amy Darling demonstrates that polka dots and stripes can be worn together without looking like a circus performer. Her exciting outfit is a reflection of her sunny personality and her original choice of eyewear is the pièce de resistance. With a disposition like Darling’s one doesn’t really need colour in their wardrobe.

Sydney Gilbert, Swerve Style YYC

Sydney Gilbert is a modern-day incarnation of Anne of Green Gables. She has the kind of gorgeous red hair that makes most girls green with envy and she mixes classic and edgy pieces with effortless panache. Black leather pants, nude wedges, a pale blue collared shirt and a cropped sweater sounds like an unlikely combination, but on Gilbert, it works. These leather pants are extremely flattering and add an unexpected element to any look. Gilbert’s beaded necklace helps tie in the pastel-blue tone of her chambray shirt and the gold bracelets and oversized watch are all classy touches. Nude wedges are still a hot trend, but beyond that, offer incredible versatility within a shoe wardrobe.
Striking the right balance between fun and functional, it’s not just Gilbert’s hair that makes heads turn.
